I can’t recommend Daniel and 5D more highly, they listen, they challenge, they adapt but most of all they deliver – When Daniel says ‘Trust me’ you know you can. To Daniel and the team, many thanks.
In a world where HR practitioners have either managed, seen or invented the tricks required to bring a group of people on a journey of discovery, I was daunted with the prospect of bringing Rio Tinto’s global top 140 HR people together for a conference with the aim of making them feel comfortable about being uncomfortable. Rio Tinto had been and come through some turbulent years but was now faced with a different problem of unprecedented industry growth against a backdrop of previously unseen market volatility – we knew finding solutions for these problems would require out of the box thinking, so we needed an experience that was going to get our people into a different space, ‘get them out of their comfort zones ’ to tackle problems in a different way – just as they would be required to from here on in.
I had worked with Daniel and his team at 5D Consulting previously on a smaller scale, where he produced a very successful conference. I had every confidence that if anyone could help me pull this off it was his team. 5D consulting worked not only on the conceptual design, and the senior leadership engagement process but also the planning, logistics (ever had to get 500 over sized lego blocks to Singapore??), event management and was the conference facilitator that worked infront of the group and in the background to bring it all together.
We came up with a completely unconventional approach – no chairs, no tables, no powerpoint!!! – just imagination, creativity, collaboration and team dynamics and a bit of Eminen thrown in!– it was a huge success which is still being talked about now…. Dan and his team used a blend of our top business leaders, multi-media, custom designed props to deliver real and substantial insights to our strategies for the future. It was a great kick start to our next phase within HR at Rio Tinto and more importantly many of the ideas generated have found their way into the way we work every day.
